HAILEY & DREW
Saasil Kantenah, Playa del Carmen.

Saasil Kantenah sits on a stretch of coast just south of Playa del Carmen where the Riviera Maya still belongs to the beach. The property is entirely private, no other guests, no resort infrastructure visible in any direction, just white sand, Caribbean water and the people you brought with you. There are very few places left on this coastline that can offer that. As a Riviera Maya wedding photographer, it’s one of the venues I return to without hesitation.

Hailey and Drew found it and didn’t need much convincing. They wanted something small and completely their own, and Kantenah delivered that from the moment everyone arrived. The ceremony happened at the right hour. That thirty-minute window in the late afternoon when the light on this part of the coast turns warm and low and falls on everything at once, the arch, the sand, the faces of the guests. Drew saw Hailey walking toward him and his eyes filled. I was already in position.

Those are the moments the whole day is built around, and when they happen in light like that, the photographs take care of themselves.

The portraits afterward were unhurried. The beach was empty, the sky still holding color, and Hailey and Drew were completely at ease with each other and with the evening. We walked the shoreline and let the light finish what it had started. When the sun dropped the reception opened up, string lights overhead, dinner on the sand, dancing that went late. The kind of night that only works when the venue is entirely yours and there’s no reason for it to end.
