Hi! I’m Antonio, a Cartagena wedding photographer based in Mexico and Europe, and this walled Caribbean city is one of the places I most look forward to working in every year.
Cartagena is, without question, the most beautiful colonial city in Latin America, and one of the very few places in the world where an entire historic center survives intact enough to be your wedding backdrop from morning to night. The pastel façades of Getsemaní, the stone ramparts built to hold off pirates in the seventeenth century, the bougainvillea spilling over balconies in the old town, the rooftop terraces looking out over the bay toward the Castillo de San Felipe, all of it gives a Cartagena wedding a sense of scale and history that few other destinations can match.
What makes Cartagena particularly special for a destination wedding is how self-contained the experience is. Couples and their guests can walk from the ceremony to the reception to their hotel, all within the walls, without ever needing a car. The light in Cartagena has a quality I find endlessly compelling. Being this close to the equator, the sun sits high and direct for most of the day, but at golden hour, as it drops toward the Caribbean and the old city walls turn from pale stone to deep amber, the light across the historic center becomes something else entirely. On analog film, that translates into images of exceptional warmth and depth, the ochre tones of the colonial façades, the deep shadow of the arcaded streets, the turquoise of the bay glimpsed between rooftops, all rendered with a richness that feels genuinely painterly.
For me, film isn’t a stylistic choice made for trends, it’s a deliberate creative decision. The slower pace it demands, the intentionality it requires, produces images that feel crafted rather than captured. Images that age beautifully.

Where to get married in CARTAGENA
Cartagena’s wedding venues cluster mostly inside and just outside the walled city, and the choice between them usually comes down to scale, privacy and how much of the old town you want as your backdrop.
Casa San Agustín in the historic center is one of the most beautiful boutique hotel properties in Latin America, a collection of three colonial mansions dating from the 17th century, with stone courtyards, fountains, a rooftop pool and interiors of extraordinary refinement. The scale is deliberately intimate and the setting produces images of genuine historical depth, the natural choice for couples who want the definitive Cartagena experience.
Hotel Casa la Fe is a smaller and even more intimate colonial property in the old city, with a private courtyard, a rooftop terrace with views across the historic center and the Caribbean, and an aesthetic that feels entirely personal and unhurried. Most couples book around a year in advance, especially for peak season dates. I’d recommend reaching out as soon as you have a date in mind to check availability.

You’ll receive a preview gallery within 48 hours of your wedding. The full edited collection is delivered within two months.

Do you travel for weddings outside Cartagena?
